Dengue cases up, 2 more die of H1N1
The number of dengue cases in the city went up to 1,226 with 71 new cases being reported on Saturday. Meanwhile, the receding waters of Yamuna near the Commonwealth Games Village threaten to give way to more mosquito breeding.
Meanwhile, two deaths due to swine flu were also reported on Saturday, taking the toll in the city to 34.
According to municipal health officials, out of the 1,226 cases, 1,061 cases have been reported from MCD areas, while 125 cases have been reported from NDMC areas.
As per figures, the number of dengue cases in the capital on September 4 this year is nearly 15 times more than what it was in 2006 the same day.
The south zone continues to remain the worst affected with 205 cases. The central zone has reported 176 cases.
The Civil Lines and Rohini Zones have reported 144 and 126 cases, respectively.
At the Commonwealth Games Village site, the MCD authorities are apprehensive of further increase in breeding of mosquitoes in the river bed area.
