DGCA: IGI noise to be reduced

After hearing a batch of petitions filed by local residents, patients and the hospitals authorities in south Delhi, seeking a direction to the Union government to take effective steps to reduce noise pollution, the high court on Thursday directed the DGCA to bring noise levels in and around Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport as per the international standards.

“This court directs that minimum and maximum noise levels be fixed in and around the airport without delay by DGCA,” Justice S. Muralidhar said. The DGCA assured the court that all necessary steps were being taken for reducing noise levels and it was holding talks with aircraft manufacturers for the purpose.
The DGCA said it will push for phaseout of old aircraft that create more noise, and assured the court of keeping noise levels around Delhi airport under check.
It said that instruments have been set up at five locations around the airport to measure the noise levels and a redress call facility has been put in place to address complaints. “We have also made a noise complaint redressal for the public, wherein anyone can lodge his complaint and we will take action on it,” DGCA counsel informed.

9 lawyers let off after apology
AGE CORRESPONDENT
NEW DELHI

June 3: Giving a sigh of relief to nine practising lawyers facing contempt of court charge for allegedly slapping Rohini court additional sessions judge Pankaj Guptain July last year, the Delhi high court on Thursday discharged them all of the contempt charges after they tendered an unconditional apology.
A special bench of Justices Vikramjit Sen, A.K. Sikri and Sanjay Kishan Kaul also quashed an FIR against eight lawyers for allegedly slapping him and damaging public property. The bench, however, directed that each lawyer will render free service in 24 legal aid cases within two years.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
