DJB starts supply, but crisis stays
Many parts of the city continued to reel under acute water shortage, while people complained of red spots on their bodies after using water supplied by the Delhi Jal Board.
The DJB said that the ammonia level continued to be more than permissible limits and to mitigate the hardships, it started 70 per cent production at Wazirabad and Chandrawal water treatment plants.
However, residents of Paharganj complained of rashes on bodies after they used the water. “Red spots have appeared on legs. We were not cautioned that the water should not be used even for bathing,” said Rajeev Banerjee, a resident of Paharganj area.
“Water being supplied from these WTP’s should be used for non-potable purposes only. It is reiterated that this water should not be used for drinking purpose. It must be boiled to render it potable,” the DJB said in a statement. The ammonia level in the raw water at Wazirabad was 1.0 ppm at 8 am on Wednesday.
