DMRC to investigate glitches
Frequent disruption in Delhi Metro services, mostly due to signalling problem and technical glitches like the one that occurred on Friday evening on the Central Secretariat (CS)-Gurgaon route, has begun raising doubts on quality maintenance. DMRC chief E. Sreedharan has ordered an enquiry into the incident.
“The issues of electricity, signalling, software have not yet been sorted out because of which the snags are being reported frequently. Unless and until the Delhi Metro comes up with some viable solution to these problems, the commuters will always be at risk,” a Delhi Metro official said on the condition of anonymity.
In the wake of weak signalling system, the Chief of Metro Rail Safety did not give clearance to the Airport Express Line. The worst-affected are the new lines as the Bombardier coaches are highly sophisticated and the trains come to a halt when there is a fluctuation in the electricity supply.
When contacted, a Delhi Metro spokesperson said, “After all it is machine only. Since the network has expanded so much, technical snags are bound to creep in. But the DMRC has a strong monitoring system. We are always on our toes to mend the faults and streamline the operations,” a Delhi Metro official said.
Normal services were restored on the Line 2 (Central Secretariat-HUDA City Centre) from 6 am after a team of over 200 engineers and technicians restored the damaged portion of the Over Head Electrification (OHE) and repaired the damaged pantograph of some trains.
Four trains were run from Central Secretariat to HUDA City Centre after 11 pm on Friday night for the stranded commuters.
