DMRC reluctant in taking up kochi project

Uncertainty prevailed over the project implementation of Kochi Metro even after Kerala CM Oommen Chandy met Union urban development minister Kamal Nath and Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit. Mr Chandy and Mr Kamal Nath gave no assurances on whether DMRC would take up the project implementation of Kochi Metro, while Ms Dikshit, who had earlier asserted that there was no hindrance in DMRC taking up the project, evaded media on Monday.

The outcome of Monday’s meeting, however, betrayed the reluctance on the part of the urban ministry to hand over Kochi Metro project to the DMRC. Mr Kamal Nath has said that DMRC has already been burdened with its own projects. He added that the third and fourth phases of Delhi Metro, besides the repair work of its airport line, would be the top priority for DMRC.
