Docs put Anna on liquid diet

After ending his fast of 288 hours at the Ramlila Grounds here on Sunday morning, Gandhian Anna Hazare was taken to Medanta Medicity hospital in Gurgaon around 11.30 am. The chairman of Medicity confirmed that his health condition was not so good that he could go to offer prayer at Rajghat.
Anna Hazare has been lodged in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital and after a thorough check up he was shifted to a private room on the 13th floor.
Medanta chairman Dr Naresh Trehan, who has been taking care of Anna’s health since he began his fast, then briefed the media about his health condition.
“Anna’s heart beat has been recorded at 94 beats per minute which is higher than the normal of 80 beats per min minute. His blood pressure is recoded slightly below normal at 120/70 and some internal organs are affected. He has been given only liquid diet and after 48 hours we will start giving him solid diet,” said Dr Naresh Trehan adding that during the fast of 288 hours, Anna lost a 7.5 kg in all.
Anna might be kept in the hospital for the next two to three days.
Commenting on the 74-year-old social activist withstanding such a long fast, Dr Trehan said he was astonished with Anna’s mental and physical abilities.
“As Mr Hazare said he followed ‘brahmacharya’ in his whole life, it means that a man should have a very strong will to carry on such a long fast. This is a rare incident in the history of medical science to witness such an old man living without food for 13 days,” said Dr Trehan.
Meanwhile, as Anna supporters got the information about the plans of the Gandhian anti-corruption crusader being shifted to the hospital, a crowd of around 1,000 supporters gathered in front of the hospital in Gurgaon shouting slogans.
The fans were in such a mood that at one instance, Anna’s close aides Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodiya had to stand up on the roof of their car to request the crowd to make way for the ambulance carrying Anna.
