Don’t push me to end life, Kazmi pleads for bail
Pleading for bail in a court here on Saturday, Syed Mohd Ahmad Kazmi, an alleged conspirator in the February 13 Israeli diplomat’s car bomb attack case, said that he “should not be pushed to the point of committing suicide.”
Kazmi’s lawyer Gajinder Kumar told the court that his client is “under depression” and he should not be pushed to the point where he is compelled to “commit suicide.”
He claimed that his client, a journalist, covered Iraq war and international politics which makes him interact with many people over phone, and this does not make him a conspirator. Denying the police allegation that Kazmi had provided logistic support to the other accused involved in the February 13 attack and helped them in conducting recce of the area, he said his client has never been involved in any act detrimental to Indian interests.
He further said that his client has been living in Delhi since decades and his family is settled here. This way, “he cannot pack his bags and flee. He will be in court whenever required.”
However, public prosecutor Rajiv Mohan opposed the bail application, saying that investigation is in initial stage. Noting that police investigation is moving around terror charges, and thus the accused must be not granted bail, Mohan said that prima facie evidence is made out against Kazmi under the charges of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
Meanwhile, Kazmi also moved an application seeking details of officials, who interrogated him in police custody as his counsel said the police has been silent on whether IB and RAW sleuths interrogated him.
“All they have said is that Kazmi was not interrogated by Mossad. But we want to know if he was interrogated by RAW and IB even as the custody was given only to Delhi police,” Kumar said.
Chief metropolitan magistrate Vinod Yadav asked the police to file its reply on Kazmi’s application and listed the matter for further argument on Kazmi’s bail application for April 2.
