Drug peddler is jailed for 10 years
A 29-year-old drug peddler, caught selling charas, was sentenced to ten years imprisonment and was fined `1 lakh by a Delhi court.
“I sentence convict Sikander to rigorous imprisonment for ten years and a fine of `1 lakh ,” additional sessions judge Anju Bajaj Chandna said, sentencing drug-peddler, a resident of Sadar Bazar in north Delhi.
Sikander was apprehended by police on July 4, 2009 from Kashmere Gate inter-state bus terminus following a tip-off that he would be coming there to sell charas.
A search of his bag led to the recovery of one kg 50 gms of the narcotic, which was found to be charas after forensic test.
When put on trial, Sikander pleaded not guilty, with his counsel contending that he is being implicated in the case due to an old enmity with the police.
The public prosecutor, however, refuted the defence counsel’s argument and told the court that the drug peddler was arrested with 1 kg 50 gms of charas which is a commercial quantity.
