Drunk driving, speeding claim 3 lives in city
Three persons were killed and nine others injured in road accidents reported from the city.
A 25-year-old man was killed and five others hurt when an Ambassador car rammed into a tree close to Union defence minister A.K. Antony’s residence in the city on Saturday night.
The incident took place at around 2 am, the police said. The deceased has been identified as Ravi Verma. Seven persons were returning from a marriage reception in Palam where they had allegedly consumed liquor. “They were travelling in a car which was driven by Sachin, 22, who was in an inebriated state. He lost control while negotiating a turn and rammed the car into a tree,” a senior police official said.
“Six persons were lying in a pool of blood. They were rushed to RML Hospital where Ravi was declared brought dead,” the official said. The police has registered a case of rash and negligent driving against Sachin at the Tughlaq Road police station. The injured are Ankit, Rajesh, Sachin, Pappu and Sachin.
In another accident, a 25-year-old software engineer was killed and his three colleagues injured when a speeding truck hit their Hyundai i-10 car in Vasant Kunj on Sunday. The victims were going to an eatery at around 4 am. The deceased has been identified as Rakesh, a native of Sonepat, Haryana. The injured Ravinder Dahiya, Himanshu and Arun Upadhyay worked in IBM with Rakesh. All the victims were in an inebriated state at the time of accident.
In the third accident, a 55-year-old man was killed and his friend hurt when a speeding tempo hit their motorcycle in Vivek Vihar on Sunday morning. The deceased, Puran Singh, a native of Nainital, Uttarakhand, was riding pillion. His friend Gopal, a resident of Indira Puram, was riding the motorcycle .
