Drunk man on IGI tarmac arrested
A security breach took place at the Indira Gandhi International Airport on Monday evening when an inebriated man who had gained entry into the airport using a “stolen” pass was found loitering in the tarmac area.
Police sources said the accused, identified as Ram Lakhan, a resident of Bihar, was found loitering in tarmac area near Bay 50D and was spotted by the staff of Jet Airways which immediately informed the Central Industrial Security Forces (CISF) at around 5.20 pm. A team of security personnel arrived on the spot and arrested the accused who was allegedly unable to stand straight due to the influence of liquor.
“He was brought to the office at Gate No. 11 and upon his search we recovered a fake identity card from his possession. The card was issued in the name of Ketan Adhikari, a bartender who worked at Org Devyani Food Co. at IGI. The card was valid till November 17 but the year of expiry was not clear,” a Central Industrial Security Forces official said.
On further search by Central Industrial Security Forces, another identity card was recovered from his shirt’s inner pocket which was issued in the name of Suresh Kumar. After the initial inquiry he was handed over to the Delhi police.
“During questioning, he stated that his name was Ram Lakhan and that he was working as a menial worker at the airport. He has dismissed the claims made by the CISF that two identity cards were recovered from him,” a senior police official said.
“A case has been registered at the IGI airport police station against Ram Lakhan and he has been put under arrest. We are corroborating the statements given by CISF and the accused person, and proper action will be taken,” R.A. Sanjeev, deputy commissioner of police (airport) said.
