Drunk youth assault cop on new year’s eve
A Delhi police constable had to bear the brunt of three inebriated youth who were creating ruckus in Connaught Place area on the New Year’s eve by consuming liquor on the road and shouting slogans. The victim constable was severely assaulted, his uniform torn off and his turban defiled by the assailants when he asked them to stop their activities.
Police sources said the incident took place at around 11.40 pm on December 31 when the victim constable, identified as Gurbhej Singh, was patrolling Connaught Place area when he found the three accused identified as Aman, Govind Ram and Sagar consuming liquor near Allahabad Bank. One of the accused had taken off his shirt and was dancing on the road on the eve of New Year when the constable who was riding a bike spotted them and asked them to mend their ways. The accused however ignored the constable and continued shouting and drinking liquor, “When Gurbhej approached them, Sagar caught hold of his and started assaulting him. Gurbhej tried to run away from the spot. Aman however, chased him and the trio started beating him up.”

Delhi plans to regularise 150 colonies

With an eye on the upcoming MCD elections slated for April, the Delhi government has stepped up efforts to regularise around 150 unauthorised colonies, which have been given no objection certificates by all concerned agencies.
“The Survey of India has finalised maps of 150 colonies and government will now take forward the process to regularise them,” urban development minister A.K. Walia said
The Delhi government had issued provisional regularisation certificates (PRCs) to 1,639 unauthorised colonies ahead of assembly polls in 2008, which are home to around 40 lakh people and constitute an important votebank.
