They had to bear disobedience from juniors. Some male students were arrogant and it was difficult to cope with their behaviour. During classroom discussions, boys give e

xamples of products that are embarrassing for girls. They try to get over friendly or insist on introducing themselves and take young female teachers for granted.
A 100-page audit report has been prepared by a team under Prof. Vibha Chatur-vedi of Women’s Studies and Development Centre.
Under the study, questions were posed to teachers and administrative staff from all disciplines: science, commerce and humanities.
Though 50 per cent of the respondents believed that gender has nothing to do with professionalism, but 42 per cent still said that men grab more opportunities for career advancement and women are saddled with family responsibilities.
Female teachers further think that marriage is an obstacle. They think that male teachers are more politically active and so they get research projects more easily and women are supposed to do more multi-tasking.
Over 41.3 per cent teachers believe that gender of the teacher affects the teacher-student relationship.
They feel that female teachers are more approachable and understanding while the male teachers are authoritative.
Girls prefer female supervisors and boys, male ones.
Similarly in research, girls are more methodical and process conscious. However, being a girl bars her chances of staying in laboratories for long hours. The administrative staff showed their dissatisfaction with the work environment and the infrastructural facilities like toilets etc.
The teachers were given a set of 21 questions while the administrative staff was given a set of 16 questions pertaining to gender sensitivity, their experiences regarding sexual harassment and their perception about it.
