DU girl raped by Net friend on false promise
A 18-year-old student of Delhi University has told the police that she was raped for around a year by her 21-year-old boyfriend who had befriended her through a social networking website. The victim told the police that the accused had promised to marry her but he refused to keep his promise. A complaint in this
regard was made on Monday at the R.K. Puram police station by the victim, a BA first year student of a Delhi University’s college in South Campus, who is also pursuing mass communication diploma course from a private institute. The police has arrested the accused, Himanshu Tokas, a resident of Mohammadpur in south Delhi after the medical examination of the victim confirmed that she was raped. According to the police, the accused is a school dropout and has a lavish lifestyle funded by his family’s earnings from house rent. Tokas has been sent to judicial custody.
According to the complaint, the officer said, the victim met Tokas online through a social networking site last December. “They became good friends and started meeting. A couple of months later Tokas proposed for marriage which she accepted,” the officer said.
According to the victim’s complaint, Tokas used to take her to his flats in Mohammadpur where he established physical relation with her a couple of times by making false promise of marriage. Tokas stopped receiving his calls when she asked him for marriage.
“The victim narrated the entire matter to her mother. On Monday, the girl’s father, a government employee approached the R.K. Puram police along with his daughter to lodge a case against Tokas,” the officer said.
