DU student abducted, ‘raped’ by businessman

A 17-year-old Delhi University student was allegedly kidnapped by a businessman in Janakpuri area of west Delhi on Wednesday afternoon and subsequently raped by him in a desolate place at Bali Nagar which comes under the jurisdiction of Moti Nagar police station of West Delhi.

While the girl was rushed to a nearby hospital for a medical examination which proved sexual assault against her, the accused, Mukesh Singhal, was arrested and is likely to be produced in a Delhi court on Friday. The incident happened in broad daylight.
According to the investigating officers, the victim was waylaid by Mukesh in Moti Nagar area while she was walking home after purchasing grocery from a market place. The police added that Mukesh, after stopping the girl mid-way, asked for an address and stated that he is new in the city. “The victim in her statement has said that the accused showed him a piece of paper, which had the address written on it and asked the girl to read it and guide him. “While the victim started showing him the way, Mukesh forced her into his WagonR car,” said a senior police officer. Meanwhile, officers have also confirmed that the car had tinted glasses.
The police added that Mukesh took the girl to an isolated place in Bali Nagar and Moti Nagar areas where he sexually assaulted the girl. “Mukesh later threatened the girl of dire consequences if she revealed the incident to anyone,” added the police. However, the girl narrated the incident to her parents and later reached the local police station after she was dumped in the Moti Nagar area. Following the complaint, Mukesh was later apprehended from his Ashok Vihar residence. The accused is a Ashok Vihar-based businessman. So far, the local police has booked him for abduction and rape. Meanwhile, the accused has confessed during sustained interrogation that he was under the influence of alcohol when the incident took place. Mukesh lives with his joint family in the Ashok Vihar area.
