DU will treat dissent by teachers as ‘strike’
The Delhi University has instructed that any hindrance by the teachers of culture and business departments in the implementation of semester system will be considered as strike. No teacher can resign as a member of any committee as that too will be considered as strike.
The university has issued a notice to 11 teachers from english department who have resigned as members of various committees. However, the teachers remain undeterred and are planning a strong reply, sources said.
The semester system has to be implemented in the english department, but the department has taken no action on it yet. The teachers have been opposing the move to implement semester system.
According to sources, the teachers had been demanding a meeting with the head of the department in connection with the implementation of the semester system but their demand was not conceded to.
The university authorities have asked the teachers to reply as to why they resigned as members of the committees.
However, a DU college teacher, who did not wish to be named, said, “The ordinance under which the notice has been served is applicable only in those cases where the teachers are from state-aided colleges. The rule that university has quoted is wrong.”
