Dy Speaker’s SUV stolen in E. Delhi
Delhi Assembly’s deputy speaker got a taste of the poor law and order situation in the city when thieves made away with his recently-purchased car from outside his son’s residence in east Delhi on Sunday.
The police said Mr Gautam’s Mahindra Bolero (DL-3C-AS-0009) was parked outside his son’s 10/160-Khichripur Colony residence and was stolen from there early on Sunday.
According to Mr Gautam, who represents the Kondli constituency, his son had parked the car at around 10.30 pm on Saturday. Mr Gautam had purchased the Bolero four months ago. A neighbour said that he had seen the vehicle at 5.30 am.
Around four months ago West Delhi MP Mahabal Mishra’s SUV was stolen by four armed assailants who took his driver hostage in Dabri area. The SUV was later recovered from Rajasthan.
“Police officers know everything about these thieves but they take no action. The police should change its attitude. We will approach the home minister and bring this matter into his notice,” Mr Gautam said. He also claimed that 24 motorcycles were stolen from Pocket-II and IV of Mayur Vihar Phase-III in the past six months besides five-six cars. “Vehicle thefts are on the rise in the area and the police is not doing anything,” he said.
