East, South Delhi face powercuts
Tripping of transmission line from Wazirpur in north Delhi to Geeta Colony in east Delhi led to continuos powercuts in many south and east Delhi areas on Saturday afternoon.
Amid high levels of humidity, residents in Ashram, Srinivaspuri, Nehru Nagar, Geeta Colony, Shakarpur and Laxmi Nagar, besides several other areas, faced powercuts from around 3.45 pm to 7 pm. Residents complained that most of the time, the helplines answered the call by maintaining that it must be a local fault.
However, according to discom officials, the problem cropped up when the Wazirabad-Geeta Colony transmission line tripped around 3.45 pm. This caused technical snags at Rajghat and Pragati power stations affecting power production and forcing the discoms to resort to load-shedding. The line was finally restored by around 7 pm.
The long powercuts played spoiled the weekend for many households as residents bore out high levels of humidity. “The first thing we are going to do now is to buy an inverter,” said a woman living in Nehru Nagar.
According to the weatherman, the maximum and minimum humidity in the city were recorded at 81 per cent and 49 per cent. The day also the maximum and minimum temperatures being recorded at 38.7 degrees Celsius (three degrees above normal) and 30.5 degrees Celsius (four degrees above normal). There was no rain in the city on Saturday. However, there is possibility some rain in the early hours of Sunday, said the weatherman.
