Elevated road to open before time
Amid the anxiety over Commonwealth Games projects missing deadlines, there is finally some good news with authorities claiming that the crucial Barapulla Nala elevated road project — which will connect the Games Village with the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium — will be completed in July, nearly a month before the deadline. Earlier, it was feared that the project may finish in mid-September, perilously close to Games.
A senior Delhi government official on Thursday confirmed that the elevated Barapulla Nala project will be completed in the last week of July and will be operational from August 1.
The officials also said that all projects related to Commonwealth Games, including the face-lift and landscaping of roads, will be completed by mid-July.
“Most of the works related to Games will be over by July 15. The civic body, Public Works Department (PWD) project of Barapulla will be inaugurated on August 1,” said the senior official closely associated with the project. The official added that the Delhi government is giving top priority to the elevated route.
“Various Games projects like the face-lift of 36 major roads, landscaping of roads leading to stadia, venues and the training centre are almost complete, said the Delhi Government officials.
However, the officials confessed that certain re-development works are pending as agencies like BSES, NDPL and MTNL are carrying out cable work on the same lanes and roads. Due to this, some work is getting interrupted, but within 10 days the re-development work will be sorted out,” said the officials.
