Employee of MCD to get Rs 30 lakhs
An MCD employee, who lost his vision in a mishap, has been awarded a compensation of Rs 30.57 lakhs by a Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT). The victim had met with the accident last year. In a recent order, presiding officer Gurvinder Pal Singh directed the insurance company to pay the victim, Bali Ram Singh, the amount within a month after holding the autorickshaw driver responsible for the accident.
The court observed that a driver behind the wheel of a mechanically propelled vehicle was duty-bound to observe necessary caution and avoid striking other vehicles, persons and other road users.
The court arrived at the compensation amount while taking cognisance of the fact that the 46-year-old victim, an assistant supervisor in the MCD, became 100 per cent visually-handicapped after suffering serious injuries in his eyes and forehead.
