End of the road for Bluelines

After missing the Commonwealth Games deadline, the Delhi government has finally decided to phase out “killer” blueline buses by December 14.
A court hearing on the fate of blueline buses is also scheduled for October 28. Out of the total fleet of 2,400 blueline buses, 800 of them were allowed to operate from last Saturday in the non-NDMC areas but now would be phased out by December 14.

Delhi transport minister Arvinder Singh Lovely told reporters on Monday that December 14 would be the last day for blueline buses in the city. “We can not leave people at the mercy of blueline buses,” stated the minister.
“Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) now has 6,500 buses, including nearly 4,000 low-floor buses and the fleet will be able to meet transport requirement of the city. The 1,600 blueline buses, which were shunted out from south and central Delhi as well as from areas near Commonwealth Games venues in October, will not be allowed to operate again,” Mr Lovely told reporters, adding that 200 more low-floor buses would join the fleet in two to three weeks’ time. “Apart from that we are expecting 4,000 buses in the cluster bus service,” Mr Lovely stated.
Out of the 1,600 buses nearly 835 buses were allowed to ply in the non-NDMC areas from last Saturday.
