Engineer uses novel way for card theft
The police has arrested an electrical engineer for allegedly stealing ATM-cum-debit cards which he later used to shop with his girlfriend at a south Delhi market.
A senior police official said, the accused, Ramji Prabhakar, who was working with a leading mobile phone operator, had allegedly devised a method of hoodwinking innocent shoppers.
The official further added that Prabhakar’s modus-operandi was very unique, as he would put some gum in the ATM card slot because of which the card would get stuck in it. While the shopper was busy lodging complaint with the bank, he used to allegedly sneak into the ATM chamber and steal the stuck card.
After stealing the card, Prabhakar and his girlfriend used to buy several household stuff from the Sarojini Nagar Market, the police alleged.
He was arrested by the police recently from the market following investigations into a complaint by Air Force officer Rajkumar Singh who claimed that his ATM card was used for transactions in Sarojini Nagar market while he was lodging a complaint of missing card.
The official said, “The police verified numerous addresses and examined CCTV footage to zero in on Prabhakar. He had also purchased a mobile phone on fictitious ID which he presented to his girlfriend.
During interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed to have committed the offence, the official claimed.
