Engineering student found murdered

A 20-year-old student of Manav Rachna University in Faridabad was stabbed to death in south Delhi’s Vasant Kunj area on Thursday night.
The police said the victim, Shobhit Modi, a second year student of engineering, was found stabbed outside gate number 3 of C-5, Vasant Kunj, by unidentified assailants. The security guard saw him lying near the gate but owing to darkness due to powercut following rains, he presumed that the boy was drunk.

“After about 10 minutes, a call came on Shobhit’s iPhone and the guard picked it up. The guard informed the caller, a girl, about Shobhit lying at the gate. The girl then informed Shobit’s parents,” a source said
Shobit’s father, Suraj Modi, immediately rushed to the spot with his elder son, Rohit, and took Shobit to Fortis Hospital where he was declared brought dead. Initial police investigation suggest that a love triangle could be the reason behind the murder.
“The matter is under investigation,” DCP (south) Chhaya Sharma said.
Shobit’s father is a general manager with Minerals and Metals Trading Corporation of India (MMTC). Shobit’s brother Rohit is an engineer from Delhi College of Engineering and is currently working with a Gurgaon-based company.
The police said Shobit had left his house at around 4.30 pm for DLF Promenade. “He was at the mall with his five friends till 9 pm after which he left. The CCTV footage from the mall shows him with a girl at around 9 pm after which he had called his mother to inform that he was coming in 20 minutes,” the source said.
“At 9.10 pm, he called his parents and at 9.45 he was seen lying at the gate by the security guard. It suggests that the victim was killed between these 35 minutes. He had four serious stab injuries, one on the chest, one in the abdomen and two on the back,” said a senior police officer requesting anonymity.
The police has ruled out robbery angle as all belongings, including a costly watch and mobile phone, were found intact.
A case of murder has been registered and further investigations are on.
