Ex-Lt. Col-led car thief gang busted
The police on Sunday claimed they had busted a gang of car thieves led by a retired Indian Army officer who is now on the run.
Lt. Col. M.P. Singh, who left the Army about 18 months ago, was running the gang for about a decade, senior superintendent of police Raghuvir Lal said. The police recovered 11 luxury cars, along with fake documents, after questioning one of the gang members.
Three others, the retired officer included, are on the run, Mr Lal said. A police sub-inspector Pankaj Verma has been suspended for failing to arrest the former Army officer.
The gang was busted following a tip, the police added. The arrested man has been identified as Nagad Narayan, alias Ram Singh, a resident of Afaur Tola in Bihar. He confessed that he prepared forged documents for the stolen vehicles.
“Some customers who came to know they had been sold stolen cars surrendered them to the police voluntarily,” Mr Lal said.

Kingpin of arson gang escapes
Age Correspondent
New Delhi
The leader of an infamous arsonist gang has escaped from a juvenile home in northwest Delhi along with 16 other inmates for the fourth time this year.
The police officials said the incident took place at around 2.5 pm on Sunday when Sanju, who is accused of committing burglary and arson in south Delhi government colonies, escaped along with 16 other inmates. Unlike last time, Sanju escaped without any violence from the rehabilitation home. “A group of 17 inmates were seen scaling walls by jail authorities on Sunday afternoon after which a police was informed. Investigations revealed that the escapees split into two groups while escaping and the plan was probably hatched last week,” a police source said.
