Experts: Need a miracle to make things fall in line
Beginning Saturday, the city is left with only 50 days to prepare itself for the Games. And barring the exception of the Games village to an extent, none of the other projects seem to be in place.
For the record, the CPWD has constructed, renovated and remodelled 10 stadia for the Games, including the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.
Following earlier reports of leakages and other problems, the CPWD has sorted out most of these. But the problem remains with the approach roads. Though the MCD claims that works like street-scaping and the foot-overbridge on Bhishampita-mah Marg will be complete by August end, not many even within the establishment are ready to take that line. The DDA, on the other hand, is struggling to put its Vasant Kunj flats project in some semblance of order.
Questioning the definition of “preparedness” as is being put up by various government agencies, an urban development expert, talking to this newspaper, said: “Putting in the last screw at the last minute does not amount to preparedness. We will require something miraculous to make things fall in line.”
He added that the deadlines have been shifted so many times for various projects that the term itself has lost meaning.
