Factory owner, labourer killed
The owner of a steel factory and a labourer were killed and four others were injured when a recently-laid concrete roof on the third floor collapsed when its support system was removed on Wednesday.
The deceased owner has been identified as Anil Jain while the identity of the labourer is yet to be confirmed. Samples of the collapsed roof, constructed eight days ago, have been sent for forensic test. A case has been registered against the builder.
The incident took place in the factory at A 101, Wazirpur Industrial Area. The injured have been identified as Ravi, Gopal, Krishen and Jairam. “The workers were removing the support system of the roof when it collapsed. Jain and five labourers were trapped. They were rescued and rushed to a nearby hospital where Jain and the unidentified labourer succumbed,” a senior police official said. The injured are reported stable and two have been discharged.
The building was old and the owner was constructing a roof on third floor. “The builder is being questioned,” the official said.
