Failed TV actor held for extortion bid
After a failing to click on the small screen, Anil Kumar, an aspiring actor was arrested on Wednesday by a special team of the Delhi police for allegedly extorting money from a businessman.
The investigating officers said that Anil had allegedly threatened to kill a central Delhi-based businessman if he failed to pay `5 lakhs. Anil had acted in the TV series, “CID” and “Aahat”. Police officers said that another man, identified as Anupam Arora, alleged to be Anil’s associate has been held.
“Anil, a Delhi-based freelance photographer, had left for Mumbai in 2008 to work in TV serials. Not achieving much success in his acting career, he returned to Delhi last year,” said a senior police officer.
“A businessman of central Delhi reported that he was getting extortion calls from some members of underworld for `5 lakhs. A deal was fixed and the businessman was asked to deliver the money on Tuesday near Madipur Metro Station,” said the official
“We placed `1,000 notes on top of wads of paper. We laid a trap and Anil, who came on a motorcycle to collect the bag, was apprehended,” said deputy commissioner of police (crime and railways) Ashok Chand.
“During interrogation, Kumar said he and Anupam, a resident of Punjabi Bagh, had hatched the plan to extort money from the businessman. Anupam too was apprehended,” the DCP said. Anupam was unemployed for the past two years.
