Fair ends with traffic snarls on final day
The India International Trade Fair ended on Saturday and over one-and-a-half lakh people visited the fair. People made the most of the last day discounts as some stalls offered as much as 70 per cent discount. However, traffic in the area remained affected due to the fair.
“Pragati Maidan registered a footfall of over 1.5 lakh visitors as it was the last day,” an India Trade Promotion Organisation official said.
People carried bags full of goods as there was heavy discount at every stall. People lapped up stuff, including cosmetics and jewellery from Burma, dry fruits from Afghanistan, stones from Pakistan. While the shopkeepers did not want to go back with their goods, the visitors did not want to go empty handed. All stalls offered discounts ranging from 30 to 70 per cent.
No one was allowed to enter the fair beyond 2 pm. Many-a-visitors had tiffs with the security personnel as they had to go outside and then enter to the fair again.
There were long queues of the visitors to be seen outside the gates from as early as 7 am.
A lot of parents had come with their children. Due to heavy rush, the traffic in the area remained affected and the traffic policemen had a field day.
