Fake notes recovered, 3 arrested
With the arrest of three men, the Delhi police on Saturday claimed to have unearthed a fake currency racket and recovered counterfeit notes with a face value of `1.6 lakhs.
The accused have been identified as Shankar Singh, 35, Shakeel Ahmed, 45, and Rahul Pal, 24, confirmed the deputy commissioner of police (south) H.G.S. Dhaliwal.
The accused were apprehended from the fruit and vegetable market in Kotla Mubarakpur on Friday after a decoy customer was sent to strike a deal.
During interrogation, the accused confessed that they were part of a gang involved in circulation of fake currency notes of `1000, 500 and 100 denomination in Delhi and NCR. “They generally deliver the fake notes to small-time traders and merchandisers. The kingpin of the gang, Shakeel, had been arrested earlier in 2008,” said the officers.

Cops arrest man for extortion

Sept. 25: The Delhi police on Saturday arrested a man for allegedly attempting to extort `60 lakhs from the family of his girlfriend. The accused, Prabhjod Singh, a resident of Moti Nagar, wanted to go abroad, said the police.
Singh was apprehended on investigations into a complaint filed by a Moti Nagar resident that his 17-year-old daughter was missing.
The father of the girl had received a text message on his mobile number demanding `60 lakhs for her release.
“More such SMS were received by the complainant demanding money,” deputy commissioner of police (west) Sharad Aggarwal said. Sustained investigations revealed that Singh, who used to live in the neighbourhood of the complainant, was missing and was seen in Kirti Nagar. He was traced near the Moti Nagar Metro Station,” he added.”
During interrogation, Singh confessed that he was pursuing BCA. “Singh wanted to settle in London and finish his studies there,” said the police.
