Families may join stir if dues not paid
The MCD contractors, who have been on strike since July 21 protesting against non-payment of their dues, on Wednesday threatened that they will involve their family members, including children, if the dues were not cleared within four days.
The contractors, led by Delhi municipal contractors association president Sunil Vohra, staged a protest demonstration at the Town Hall and presented a memorandum to the municipal commissioner and the Delhi mayor P.R. Sawhney.
The memorandum points that the MCD got Rs 2,100 crores from various sources recently and yet it was not ready to pay the contractors their due. It was pointed out that while Rs 600 crores has been received from the income tax department as the first instalment of lease amount for the civic centre, the Delhi government has released Rs 1,500 crores to the MCD. Still the MCD has been claiming that it does not have the money to pay. The MCD has been maintaining that it will pay the contractors their dues till March 2009.
