A family was held hostage on gunpoint at their Anand Vihar residence by five unidentified dacoits, who took away cash and jewellery worth lakhs of rupees on Wednesday.
The incident took place at house number 201 in AGCR enclave in Anand Vihar where Dr Chandra Prakash Gupta, 80, lives with his wife Lalita Gupta, 75. They have two s
ons Pankaj Gupta, a chartered accountant, and Vikas Gupta, an engineer, and both are married. The police said the five unidentified robbers wearing masks arrived in a luxury car carrying automatic revolvers at around 3 pm.
Sources said robbers made their way into the house through the main gate which was left open. “As the assailants made their way into the house, they were confronted by family members. However, they took out arms and dragged the victims, including Dr Gupta and his wife, into a room and asked them to switch off their mobiles,” a police official said.
“All the victims, including Meenakshi, wife of Pankaj, her two kids and other two kids of Vikas and a domestic help were asked to lie down on their chests while two assailants stood guard. The other three ransacked the house,” a senior police official said. The police sources said a physiotherapist used to come for Lalita’s treatment and the main gate was left open by domestic help for him. It is being suspected that he may have tipped the assailants.
