The blaze was reported at about 9.15 am at the shoe factory owned by one Ashok Gupta, a resident of Gupta Nagar, in Wazirpur Industrial Area, the firemen said. “12 fire tenders worked for at least three hours to douse the flames apparently caused by a short-circuit in wiring. Property worth lakhs of rupees was destroyed in the blaze,” a fire official said. The fire broke out on the first floor of the factory at A-85, Guru Industrial Area.
“At about 9 am, a worker was starting a generator when fire broke out and spread to the entire building. At least 12 workers were inside the factory, who were safely evacuated. Three suffered minor injuries. One of the three victims, identified as Mukesh, 22, fell unconscious and was rescued by other workers. The injured were taken to Babu Jagjivan Ram hospital where all but Mukesh were discharged after first aid,” said the official.
