Firearm used in crime retrieved

In a significant development in the Ashok Vihar “honour killings”, the Delhi police claimed to have recovered the weapon reportedly used to kill Monica, her husband Kuldeep and her cousin Shobha on June 20.

In a related development, the fourth accused in the case, identified as Pinto Singh, surrendered before the police in Dadri, Ghaziabad, on Tuesday. Pinto is suspected to have provided shelter to the three main accused while they were on the run. With this, the number of people held in the triple murder case has gone up to four. The Delhi police has already arrested Shobha’s brother Mandeep Singh, Monica’s brother Ankit Chaudhary and their common friend Nakul Khari.
Police sources claimed that the revolver allegedly used by three youths in the killings was recovered from Rishikesh in Uttarakhand. A Delhi police team, which was interrogating the three accused, had taken them to Rishikesh on Monday.
Earlier, the accused had told police that they had thrown the pistol in the river Ganga after killing Shobha, Monica and Kuldeep. The police said the three murders were committed on a single day. Shobha was the first to be killed, followed by Kuldeep and then his wife Monica.
The trio had escaped to Uttarakhand and were moving around in Dehradun, Rishikesh and Mussoorie but were finally held by Ghaziabad police on June 23 from Garhmukteshwar. Investigators are reconstructing the chain of events that led to the crime.
“Their questioning is on to ascertain their involvement. We have taken their fingerprints to match them with those lifted from the residence and the car in which Shobha was found shot dead on June 22 morning,” said sources.
The trio has reportedly confessed to having killed their family members for bringing “dishonour” to their families by marrying outside their caste.
