Firecrackers worth `50 lakhs seized
On Wednesday, the Delhi police claimed to have seized 5,340 kg of crackers worth `50 lakh stored illegally in three godowns and arrested three persons in this connection.
The crime branch teams raided godowns at Chandan Park in Samaipur Badli, Mangolpuri and Naveen Shahdara on Tuesday, DCP (crime) Ashok Chand said on Wednesday.
The first premises to be raided was Chandan Park from where 2,850 kg illegally stored firecrackers were seized. Pankaj Kansal, 35, was arrested from there.
Another raid was conducted in Mangolpuri from where 2,080 kg of illegally stored firecrackers were seized following which Bipin Kumar, 24, was apprehended.
The third case was reported from Naveen Shahdara. The police seized 410 kg of crackers and apprehended Aditya Aggarwal, 23.
Last week, the Delhi police had seized 2,715 kg of firecrackers, worth around `27 lakhs, stored illegally in two godowns here and two persons were arrested in this connection.
“Kansal procured the firecrackers from a wholesaler in Gurgaon. Kumar disclosed that he has a provision store at Mangolpuri and had illegally stored the firecrackers in a godown. “Aggarwal runs a general merchant shop at Shahdara. He had procured the firecrackers from a wholesaler in Gurgaon,” DCP Chand said.
