Five dead in mishaps in 24 hrs across city
The chief chef of a Greater Kailash-based restaurant was one of the five people who died in the city in fatal accidents in the past 24-hours. The accident took place on the August Kranti Marg, when Sohan, a chief chef, had gone to buy dinner for his relatives, who were attending to his ailing brother at AIIMS Trauma Centre. Sohan was hit by a speeding Alto car which had an official government sticker on its windshield.
The driver was arrested, but at least four other people in the car managed to flee. The police also claimed to have recovered documents related to a national political party from the car. A case of death due to negligent driving has been has registered against the driver.
The car hit Sohan while he was trying to cross the road. “During interrogation, the driver said that he dragged Sohan for a few yards while he was trying to flee,” said officials. “He hit another Alto car and a cyclist, leaving two people injured,” said the police. “His car hit a divider and broke down. He got injured and was arrested,” said officials.
Sohan was rushed to the Trauma Centre and was declared dead around 1 am on Saturday.
In another incident, a man identified as Mukesh Saini rammed a biker with his Indica car in Rani Bagh leaving killing him on the spot. The deceased has been identified as Ram Bahadur. Saini hit another car in a bid to flee, injuring two others. He has been arrested.
Meanwhile, a Santro car collided with a truck carrying iron roads in Prashant Vihar on Saturday. A couple in the car died on the spot after the iron roads loaded in the truck pierced through the windshield.
In two more fatal accidents early on Saturday, a five-year-old girl died after being hit by a truck in Karawal Nagar, east Delhi, while a 22-year-old motorcyclist died after a DTC bus hit him in Karala village in outer district.

Woman dies of burns in domestic tiff

Sept. 4: A 65-year-old woman was burnt to death as she fell on a gas stove after being shoved by her daughter-in-law following a heated argument. The incident was reported from Usmanpur in northeast Delhi on Thursday.
According to the police, the deceased woman Mewa Devi had an argument with her youngest daughter-in-law, Babita, 35, in her house. Babita pushed her in a fit of rage following which Mewa Devi fell on a gas stove. Mewa Devi was cooking when the quarrel between the two started. She was rushed to GTB hospital where the doctors declared her brought dead. Following the incident, Babita fled to her mother’s residence in Kondli.
A case has been registered and further investigations are on.
