Five held for auto theft; Vehicles, engines seized
The northeast Delhi police arrested five persons on Saturday in connection with separate cases of vehicle thefts and claimed to have busted two rackets of auto lifters and scrap dealers.
The police claimed to have recovered three cars, two motorcycles and six engines along with a large quantity of automobile parts and cutting tools from them. The accused have been identified as Sachin, 21, and Raju, 29, both mechanics, and their associates Narender Pal, 21, a carrier, Mohd Salim, 42, a junk dealer, and Manish Sharma, 25.
“Sharma, who was arrested in a separate case, is involved in 13 cases of vehicle theft in various police stations across the city. We have sent his records to all the police stations to ascertain his involvement in other cases as well,” said deputy commissioner of police (northeast) Sanjay Kumar Jain.
The officials said more vehicles are likely to be recovered from the accused as they are being questioned. “We expect that more vehicles will be recovered. They usually used to dispose off the stolen vehicles, either by selling spare parts or by changing the registration plates and selling the vehicles cheap,” a police official said.
