Flood alert as Yamuna swells again
Haryana has alerted Delhi and all districts along the Yamuna about abnormally high flood levels following a sudden upsurge in the river’s discharge on Sunday.
A state government spokesman stated that the already above normal discharge of 2,68,431 cusecs from the Hathnikund Barrage at 6.41 am Sunday, had swollen to 6,40,980 cusecs by 5 pm and is reported to be rising further. On Saturday, the discharge of water was less than 74,000 cusecs.
Field staff of the state irrigation department in Karnal, Panipat, Sonepat, Faridabad and Palwal have asked to take preventive measures besides watching critical sections of the Yamuna embankment. A flood warning has already been sounded in 22 villages of Yamuna Nagar district including Kalesar, Baburambass, Mamdubas, Tappukamalpur, Punehri, Baghwali, Jathlana and Sandhala-sandhali.
Officials warned of a substantial rise in the river’s water level as it enters the National Capital Region.

The driver of the private school van, who abused a 12-year-old girl and her minor brothers for over 18 months in central Delhi, was remanded in judicial custody for another 14 days. Meanwhile, the investigating officers on Sunday said that they are through with the investigation in the case.
