Focus on work, not deadlines: MCD
Having missed six deadlines in five months, the MCD is now hoping that the next seven days, or the fortnight in some cases, will be enough to complete the pending projects. However, the MCD is conceding that there was little point in talking about another deadline and the focus should instead be on completing the work at hand.
According to MCD officials, major works in Karol Bagh and Paharganj areas still remain to be completed. In Karol Bagh, work on Pusa Road, Upper Ridge Road and Shankar Road is yet to be completed, while a lot of work remains on other roads.
The MCD had taken up 22 major roads and 56 internal lanes for improvement and strengthening. In Paharganj, it had taken up eight major roads and 49 internal roads for improvement. The MCD hopes to complete this work by September 7.
The situation seems worse in the Delhi University area, around Chhatrasal Stadium and Rugby Stadium, where 12 roads were taken up for improvement and only four have been completed so far.
The work on laying cables of the BSES, DJB pipes and installation of the CCTV is yet to be completed. This would mean further digging and delay in completion of the improvement work.
In the Civil Lines area, only one out of the 10 roads have been completed till now.
Further, the work still continues on DDU Marg and Minto Road, which may be finally over only by September 15.
Meanwhile, the improvement and strengthening work on the Fifth Avenue Road in front of the Mehar Chand Market in Lodhi Colony and improvement of internal lanes and drainage is also lagging behind schedule.
Chairman, works committee of the MCD, Jagdish Mamgain, who held a meeting with the engineering department on Tuesday, said that instead of giving new deadlines, the department has been asked to focus on the projects at hand and try to complete them as early as possible.
Mr Mamgain said that in the five months beginning March 31 to August 31, the MCD has missed six deadlines.
