Fog eases, but light rain adds to chill in the city
The fog eased in the capital but the chill intensified with a light drizzle on Tuesday morning. The weatheman has said that more rain is expected in the coming few days.
Meanwhile, flight operations in the Indira Gandhi International Airport were normal. “There is a western disturbance over Jammu and Kashmir, as a result of which Delhi witnessed light rainfall on Tuesday morning. More rains are expected in the yearend,” an Indian Meteorological Department official said.
With the rain, the intense fog conditions eased, the official said. Flight operations at the Indira Gandhi International airport were normal as the visibility levels were better than the last three days when many international and domestic flights were either diverted or cancelled, an airport official said. Though the fog in the early hours did not trigger a travel chaos as Monday, the light rains and cold winds blowing across the city led the maximum temperature to drop to 15.2ºC from 21ºC the previous day.
The rain gauges measured 0.9 mm till 5.30 pm. The mercury was recorded at a low of 7.4ºC on Tuesday morning, up from Monday’s 6.1ºC. The maximum was 7ºC below normal for this time of the year while the minimum was normal for this period.
Light showers that began at around 9 am took the residents of the capital by surprise as they stepped out of their homes. The MeT had on Monday predicted that Delhi could receive rains on Wednesday as well.
The weatherman predicted fog in the morning and rains during the day while the temperature could oscillate between 9ºC and 18ºC on Wednesday.
