Foolproof security plan for Obama visit to city
The Delhi police has made elaborate arrangements for the maiden visit of US President Barack Obama, who will be provided a Z+ security cover during his stay in the national capital.
Security and traffic plans are being worked out by the Delhi police in consultation with the Union ministry of home affairs and the US consulate for the visit which will begin on November 7. Mr Obama is likely to leave Delhi on November 9. “Sketchy arrangements have already been worked out. There will be elaborate security and traffic arrangements and more than 5,000 cops will be deployed along the routes and the places where the US President will be staying,” a senior police official said.
Sources revealed that Mr Obama is likely to stay at Maurya Sheraton on Sardar Patel Marg, which will turn into a fortress with multiple rings of security around. The sources revealed that proximity security to Mr Obama will be provided by his guards while the other cordons will be manned by personnel from Delhi Police and paramilitary forces.
Sources revealed that sharp shooters will be deployed on highrises along the routes which Mr Obama will take for which a fool-proof security plan has been designed. CIA chief Leon Panetta came in September and met Union home minister P. Chidambaram and senior officials.
