Former PSU official is summoned
The Patiala House Court has issued summons against a former senior official of public sector undertaking National Projects Construction Corporation Limited (NPCCL) for defaming an employee on the ground of religion.
“A prima facie case is made out for summoning of accused S. Basak (former additional general manager of NPCCL) for the offence of defamation,” metropolitan magistrate Samar Vishal said.
The MM was hearing a complaint of K.Z. Khan, a resident of Kalkaji in south Delhi, seeking prosecution of three senior officials of the NPCCL for issuing defamatory letters against him to various government agencies.
Seeking the presence of the accused official on February 21, the court said, the alleged letters were written by him to the National Minorities Commission and to the Government of India.
The court, however, refused to issue summons to the public sector undertaking and its two other officials saying “there is no evidence against any other respondents.”
Amit Kumar, lawyer of Mr Khan, said, “Since the appointment of the complainant with the company in 1990 as a senior stenegraphar, the senior officials are acting in a derogatory manner against him and are causing harassment to him for the reason that he is a Muslim.”
