Games’ ad panel gets to work
The Delhi government on Thursday formed a committee to take care of the Commonwealth Games’ branding and public advertising. The committee will be headed by tourism ministry principal secretary Rina Ray, confirmed the Delhi government officials.
The step to set up the committee has been taken after a high-level meeting between Delhi chief minister Shiela Dikshit and Commonwealth Games (CWG) Committee Chairman Suresh Kalmadi.
The CWG committee members during the meeting had also asked for an additional Rs 100 crores for the branding, advertising and public awareness campaigns for the Games, said the officials. “The CWG committee members today even asked the city government to take care of the finances of all Games-related work outside the stadiums,” said the government officials.
However, after several hours of discussion on the finances for the branding of the Games, it was decided to include the DMRC, MCD, NDMC and DTC in the committee.
The government officials added that it has been decided that the Commonwealth Games advertising in the city will be under the DTC, DMRC, NDMC and MCD. “The billboards and displays of the Games in the DMRC, MCD, NDMC and DTC premises will be financed by the respective organisations.
Meanwhile, the Games organisers have also asked the working committee of the cricket board for financial help to the tune of Rs 100 crores.
