Girl ‘kills self’ over punishment

The parents of a girl in Gurgaon have alleged that she committed suicide in her house following alleged corporal punishment at her school. The Gurgaon police said that they are investigating the allegations and would register a case. However, the school authorities denied the allegation. The girl had committed suicide on July 25 after

allegedly being humiliated and thrashed by her teacher before other students a day before. According to the police, the parents of Ashima Yadav have alleged that her class teacher at Euro International School first humiliated her before the class and then took her to the principal.
Ashima’s mother, Sunita Yadav, said that when Ashima returned from school, it appeared that she had been slapped. She kept quiet for the better part of the day but broke down at the dinner table. Her mother then helped her sleep in her room. Next morning, she was found hanging. No suicide note was recovered from the spot. However, school principal Reena Sharma said that Ashima was never thrashed.
