Girl, 14, denied admission in school
A 14-year-old Class 8 passed girl student has been refused admission to Class 9 by several government schools, putting a question mark over the implementation of Right to Education in the city.
The girl, Sidhra Malik from Shashi Garden, who had been running pillar to post to continue her education as government schools have allegedly refused admission to her, finally approached the All-India Parents’ Association (AIPA) for help.
Ashok Agarwal, an advocate and national president, AIPA, has written to Delhi education minister Kiran Walia seeking her intervention.
Mr Agarwal said that Sidhra passed Class 8 in 2012-13 from Modern Convent Junior High School (recognised), Noida (U.P.) while staying with her grandparents at Ghaziabad.
However, after her grandparents passed away, she shifted to her parent’s home at Shashi Garden.
According to Mr Agrawal, the girl possesses a valid transfer certificate required for changing school but has still been made to run from one school to another for no known reason.
“When Sidhra and her mother approached the Government Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya, Patparganj, Delhi-91, the principal refused admission to her. She then approached the Government School at Pocket IV but its principal refused admission,” Mr Agrawal alleged.
