Girl, man arrested for running arms racket
A 20-year-old girl, along with her accomplice, was arrested by the special cell for allegedly running an illegal arms racket in the city.
The police said the accused, Zainab Nisha, 20, daughter of a teacher in government school in northeast Delhi, and her accomplice Riyaz Mohammed, alias Pappu, 44 were arrested by the cops from a restaurant at Birajpuri in Wazirabad on November 9. The police has recovered four semi-automatic .32 bore pistols from their possession.
Sources in the police said that the two involved in a gang running the arms racket from the last one-and-a-half years. The police are now investigating if the illegal arms were procured from Naxals in Munger and Jharkhand. “We were surprised when we seized the weapons. They are sophisticated weapons and appear to be the ones made by the Naxals. Local criminals do not make such semi-automatic pistols. Our senior officers were also surprised when they also saw the weapons,” said a police source.
The police said that women were used to procure the weapons from Munger, Jharkand and Patna to evade suspicion of police. “To avoid any suspicion, girls like Zainab were used to transfer the weapons,” the source revealed.
“Zainab carried the weapon in sweets or a shoe packets. To avoid the guns from being detected, the packet was wrapped with carbon. Riyaz always accompanied the Zainab and the other girls to Patna to get the weapons but the arms were kept inside Zainab’s or some other girl’s bag,” added a police source.
Having quit school after failing in her exams, Zainab was finally pursuing her education through an open school. Around two years ago, she had come in contact with Riyaz through her friend who was married to Riyaz’s relative.
