Girls outshine boys in Class 12 exams

Over 85 per cent students in Delhi passed the CBSE Class 12 examination in 2012 with government-aided schools performing better than private ones and more girl students clearing the exam in comparison to boys.
There was, however, a minor decline in the pass percentage in the city in 2012 in comparison to 2011. Of the over 2.28 lakh students who appeared for the exam in the Delhi region in 2012, 85.40 per cent passed, while 85.45 per cent students in the region had passed in 2011, a statement issued by the CBSE said.
Girls, however, improved their pass percentage in 2012. While the pass percentage for girls was 89.72 per cent in 2011, in 2012 it stood at 90.06 per cent, the statement said. It added that of the total 1.19 lakh boys who appeared for the exam, 96,916 passed, taking their pass percentage to 81.14 — down from 2011’s 81.58 per cent. The pass percentage of government schools increased to 87.70 per cent this time from 2011’s 87.53 per cent.
Delhi’s education minister Arvinder Singh Lovely said schools under the Delhi government have performed the best among government-run schools across the country in the CBSE Class 12 exams.
Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNV) and Kendriya Vidyalayas (KV) in Delhi fared better than private schools in this year’s Class 12 examination, the CBSE statement said. At 91.20 per cent and 95.53 per cent, the pass percentage of JNV and KVs respectively has been better than of the private schools, which have a pass percentage of 90 per cent.
The pass percentage of both JNVs and KVs, however, dropped in the capital — from 96.52 per cent in 2011 to 91.20 per cent in 2012 for JNVs and 95.63 per cent in 2011 to 95.53 in 2012 for KVs.
According to the CBSE, the pass percentage of private schools in Delhi has increased from 89.71 per cent in 2011 to 90 per cent in 2012. State government-aided schools in Delhi registered a pass percentage of 87.70 per cent in 2012 against 2011’s 87.53 per cent.
