Govt to bring 1,000 buses to offset exit of Bluelines
The Delhi transport department is gearing up to bring in about 1,000 buses under the kilometre scheme to ensure that the commuters do not face any inconvenience after the Blueline buses are phased out by December 14.
“Delhi government is determined to phase out the Blueline buses and the transport department is looking at options to make it hassle-free for the commuters. The department is likely to bring in 1,000 buses under the scheme, which would be run by the DTC on routes where there would be more pressure after the Blueline phase out,” said a senior transport department official.
Delhi government is looking ahead to phase out about 900 Blueline buses still in operation in the capital.
“The city government is also looking at the possibility of giving permits to mini-buses to ply on the feeder routes to connect to the nearest Metro stations. There are about 300 RTVs which too will be converted into mini-buses to ensure that they become safe and carry more passengers,” added the official.
The city government is also hopeful that the operationalisation of the bus clusters by corporates, a proposal of which is likely to come up in the Cabinet meeting in the coming week, will qualitatively improve the transport system in the city.
