Govt to build 3,5000 low-cost flats for EWS
The Delhi government on Wednesday approved a proposal to construct about 35,000 low-cost flats for the economically weaker section at a cost of `1,900 crores.
Delhi urban development minister, A.K. Walia, on Wednesday said that the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) has given its nod for construction of about 35,000 flats for EWS category under the JNNURM scheme.
The low-cost flats will be constructed at Pooth Khurd, Tikri and Savda Ghevra under three different projects.
Dr Walia said that the three projects relating to construction of 35,000 flats have been vetted by HUDCO. The city government’s construction agency, DSIIDC, will construct 18,760 flats at Pooth Khurd at an estimated cost of `1,020 crores and 8,420 flats at Tikri at an estimated cost of `465 crores, he added. The DUSIB will take up construction of 7,620 flats at Savda Ghevra-III at an estimated cost of `408 crores.
The construction will be completed within 18 months after award of work. The DSIIDC has completed construction of 9,660 flats, whereas another 4,144 flats will be ready by April, 2011. The DUSIB has assured that construction of 1,024 flats at Dwarka will be completed in all respect by April, 2011,” Mr Walia said.
