Govt clips admin powers of DTU V-C
In the wake of complaints of alleged irregularities against the Delhi Technological University vice-chancellor Prof. P.B. Sharma, the Delhi government has stripped his administrative powers and delegated extra powers to the pro vice-chancellor Prof. Moinuddin who will also be appointed co-chairman of the university’s Academic Council and a member of the Board of Management.
In a letter addressed to the V-C, principal secretary to the Delhi government, Anand Prakash has said that the administrative powers be delegated to the Prof. Moinuddin as this will enable Prof. Sharma to concentrate on academic matters and pursue excellence.
The letter said, “The problems of the faculty members and staff (technical and ministerial) need to be addressed immediately. An attempt should be made to amalgamate the two cadres of Delhi College of Engineering and Delhi Technological University employees through voluntary compliance”.
“For this a committee may be constituted to examine and finalise the proposed service conditions of DTU faculty and staff including the conditions being offered to the DCE staff to enable them to switch over to DTU’s staffing pattern. Prof. Moinuddin will be the chairman of the committee with one representative each of the teaching faculty, staff and government,” the letter further stated.
Reportedly, the students and teachers sent letters of complaint to the Delhi government about the alleged irregularities in the DTU.
The Pro-V-C will have powers to purchase equipment including computers worth `25 lakhs.
