Govt hands over 2 observation homes to NGOs
The Delhi Cabinet in its meeting on Monday approved a proposal to handover maintenance of two observation homes for mentally challenged inmates to NGOs, while laying down quality standards to ensure proper upkeep of the inmates.
The chief minister’s office in a statement stated that two observation homes, one at Dwarka and the other at Bindapur in southwest Delhi, were set up to decongest Asha Kiran home, which had witnessed a spate of deaths of inmates this year.
The Delhi Cabinet also decided to set up a committee headed by the chief secretary Rakesh Mehta to monitor functioning of the two homes to be run by the NGOs.
