Govt: No hygiene standards for eateries in place
With barely two months to go for the Commonwealth Games, the city still does not have guidelines for hygiene standards for eateries. The Delhi government has conceded this during the hearing of a RTI petition seeking details of guidelines for hygiene at eateries.
In a recent order, information commissioner Shailesh Gandhi noted that the Delhi government has informed that there are no proper guidelines to check the hygiene standards for hotels, restaurants or vendors of food items. The information commissioner asked the officials concerned to provide the same information to the petitioner, Santosh Kumar Kappu of Uttam Nagar, in writing.
As many as one lakh tourists are expected to visit the city during the Games and, in the absence of any guidelines, it is going to be tough for the authorities to ensure that uniform standards of hygiene were adopted by various eateries.
